Covici Friede, New York 1936 Second Edition Steinbeck's first book, originally published in 1929 by Robert M. McBride, only 1500 copies were printed. Reissued in 1936 by Covici Friede in maroon cloth which was the first edition second issue, bound in maroon cloth, 900 copies were printed. This is the second edition in blue cloth. {ref: Goldstone & Payne A1c, Lee}. Book Condition: Very Good, clean blue cloth boards and spine, book is tight and square, light shelf wear, minor surface scuff at the front board, clean endpaper and pages, tight spine, lightly read, age toned pages. Dust Jacket Condition: Good+, wrapped in a new clean removable mylar cover, jacket price clipped, darkening at the spine, chipping and shelf wear at the edges.
